A family of four was killed in New Cairo after a suspect allegedly targeted the father over cash and gold kept at home, and was later arrested.
A family of four was killed in New Cairo on Monday, August 10, 2026, in a case that Egyptian authorities say began with an alleged attempt to rob the father of cash and gold kept at his home.
The victims were the father, Osama Nasif, his wife Amal Riyad, and their two daughters, Helen Nasif, 14, and Lilian Nasif, 16.
The investigation began after the father’s brother reported him missing to the Fifth Settlement police station on August 10 and said he had been unable to contact him.
According to the Ministry of Interior, officers went to the family’s residence and found the father’s car with bloodstains and signs of gunfire. They also found the bodies of his wife and two daughters inside the wife’s car, which was located near their home in El-Narges district.
The three female victims were reportedly found with gunshot wounds. The Ministry of Interior later announced that police had identified and arrested a suspect, who allegedly directed officers to the weapon used in the killings.
According to the ministry’s account, the suspect allegedly lured the father away in his car before shooting him. After confirming that the father had died, he took the keys to the family residence and disposed of the body behind a concrete barrier on the Ain Sokhna Road.
He then reportedly went to the family’s home and contacted the wife, telling her that her husband had been involved in a traffic accident and had been taken to a hospital.
The wife then allegedly left with her two daughters in her car, accompanied by the suspect. The ministry said that once they reached the same road, the suspect fired several shots, killing them.
He then drove the wife’s car back toward the family’s home, left it nearby with the three bodies inside and covered the vehicle.
Authorities said the suspect knew that the father kept cash, reportedly USD 2,000 or EGP 100,000, and gold bars inside his home. The ministry said the suspect was experiencing financial difficulties and decided to kill the father and steal the valuables.
The suspect allegedly planned to return to the house after killing the father and complete the robbery. However, when he returned using the keys he had taken from the father, he found the building’s security guard there and was unable to enter.
The suspect intended to return later that night to complete the robbery, but he was arrested before he could do so. Authorities said they had seized the weapons used in the crime.
The bodies were transferred for forensic examination and have since been buried. The Public Prosecution has taken over the investigation.
