In our latest feature, newlyweds Heidi Khalid and Director Hadi El-Bagouri sit down with El-Shai to talk about “2olly”, Heidi’s latest song, and the creative journey that they both went through and brought the project to life.
The conversation naturally moves between music, filmmaking, writing and the dynamic they have built together over the years. They revisit how Hadi first discovered that Heidi had been writing privately for years, the moment he realized there was something worth building around, and how their relationship has evolved creatively since they first met.
They also open up about working together as a married couple, and how that personal relationship shapes the way they communicate, challenge each other and create.
Rather than treating “2olly” as simply another release, they approached it as a chance to build something that genuinely reflects Heidi’s personality, from the lyrics and melodies to the visual language surrounding the song.
Hadi also takes us through his own path into audio production, from his early work with WAMA to his interest in experimenting with new sounds and artists. Together, they discuss what it means to create music in a social media-first era, where TikTok, short-form content, hooks and audience behaviour can all influence the way a song is experienced.
For Heidi, “2olly” is also about stepping more fully into music and trusting her instincts as a singer, songwriter and composer. She speaks honestly about being talented in different fields, the pressure that can come with that, and her hope that other young people, especially young women, feel encouraged to take their own talents seriously.
