In a bid to offer Egyptians a secure and private platform for receiving essential updates, WhatsApp has proudly launched “WhatsApp Channels” in Egypt. This new service aims to become the most confidential broadcast messaging product available to millions of users in the country. With a strong emphasis on privacy, simplicity, and reliability, Channels is set to be a separate and optional feature, ensuring user choice and control.
Channels promises to uphold the privacy protections that WhatsApp users have come to rely on, and to achieve this, administrators will not have the ability to add followers to their Channels. Furthermore, to ensure data privacy, the channel history will be stored on WhatsApp’s servers for only 30 days. The updates from Channels will be conveniently located on a dedicated “Updates” tab, ensuring that important messages from friends, family, and communities remain separate from the broadcast updates.
As a one-way broadcast tool, administrators will be able to use Channels to send various types of content, including text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. To enhance user experience, WhatsApp has also introduced a directory feature that enables users to discover and follow channels that match their interests. For example, sports enthusiasts can keep up with their favorite teams, while individuals can receive updates from local officials and much more.
In celebration of the launch, WhatsApp has partnered with various sectors and industries, collaborating with entities such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, United Media Services, and Al Ahly SC, a prominent team in the Egyptian Premier League. The presence of these esteemed partners emphasizes WhatsApp’s commitment to providing valuable information through Channels.
Shaden Khallaf, Meta Head of Public Policy for North Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the introduction of WhatsApp Channels in Egypt. She emphasized that Egypt is a dynamic hub for creators and innovation, and the launch of Channels will enable people and organizations to effectively engage with Egypt’s fast-growing WhatsApp community.
The initial rollout of Channels in countries like Colombia and Singapore has been a success, with local partners, government bodies, and renowned organizations utilizing the platform to share vital information.
The launch of WhatsApp Channels in Egypt represents a milestone for the platform and demonstrates WhatsApp’s dedication to empowering users with secure and reliable communication channels. By prioritizing privacy and user choice, WhatsApp continues to set a high standard for messaging platforms in an era where data security is of utmost importance.
WhatsApp’s early launch of Channels in Egypt brings forth a promising communication avenue for users seeking a private and secure method of receiving essential updates. With the support of valued partners from various sectors, WhatsApp is poised to create a positive impact on the Egyptian WhatsApp community and pave the way for similar launches in other countries.
