The NTRA’s 2026 report reveals a massive surge in digital activity, led by a 67% increase in streaming services and a 60% rise in short-form video consumption. With 8.9 million new subscribers, the data highlights a significant shift toward data-intensive entertainment and social connectivity across the nation. Here’s the full breakdown.

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (NTRA) 2026 report highlights a sharp transformation in Egypt’s digital behaviour. Internet usage has expanded across mobile and fixed connections, driven mainly by entertainment platforms and social media.

Streaming services, short-form video apps, and messaging tools are now central to daily life, while search engines, maps, and remote work platforms continue to grow steadily.

The data reflects a deeper shift toward a fully connected society where digital access is shaping how people communicate, work, and consume content.

Streaming and Short-Form Video Dominate Usage

Entertainment platforms are leading Egypt’s internet growth in 2026, as more users shift toward on-demand viewing and short-form content on TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

Streaming services such as Netflix, Watch It, and Shahid recorded a 67 percent rise in usage, reaching 52.4 million daily viewers.

Alongside that, short-form video platforms continued to expand strongly, with millions of users contributing to a total of 14.6 million hours of daily content consumption, marking a 60 percent increase compared to 2025.

Social Media and E-Commerce

Digital services beyond entertainment are also expanding rapidly across Egypt.

Search engines recorded 55 million users performing 64.1 billion searches daily, while Google Maps saw a 29% increase with 46.2 million daily searches for locations and directions.

Remote work tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams involved 6.5 million users spending nearly 160 million hours in online meetings.

E-commerce platforms like Amazon, Noon, and Jumia, saw 29.8 million shoppers making 10.5 million daily visits.

Email services are also a key pillar of digital communication in Egypt, especially for work, education, and formal communication.

Platforms such as Gmail and Yahoo recorded 16 million users, with 14.2 million emails sent daily.

The category also recorded a 12% increase, reflecting continued reliance on email despite the dominance of messaging apps. This highlights how traditional digital communication tools still play a stable and necessary role in Egypt’s expanding online ecosystem.

Search, Work, Gaming, and Livestreaming

Social media and messaging platforms continued to dominate daily digital activity across Egypt. The report shows 54.3 million users generating 25.2 billion visits each day across major platforms.

Instant messaging services, including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Messenger, recorded 34.8 million active users sending 471.8 billion messages daily.

Live streaming is also gaining momentum, with a 35 percent increase in real-time content creation, reflecting a stronger demand for immediate and interactive communication experiences, while gaming grew to 31 million players with a 21% increase in time spent on PlayStation and Xbox.
