A hotel manager at ElSafwa Utopia in Port Said has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined 50,000 EGP after refusing to give a room to a woman traveling alone. The case began when Alaa Saad was denied a stay simply because she was by herself.
Despite earlier setbacks and confusion over who holds responsibility, Alaa is continuing her fight. She says this is not just her case, but a wider issue affecting women across Egypt who are still denied the basic right to move and stay freely in their own country.
