Al Azhar Imam Calls for Preserving the Rights of the Working Women Who Contribute to Increasing the Wealth of her Husband

Al Azhar imam issued a statement on the official page of Al Azhar, assuring the necessity of reviving the fatwa “the right of toil and striving” from our Islamic heritage; to preserve the rights of working women.

As the stable marriage relationship is not built on rights and duties but on friendship, love, and the situations in which spouses support each other to bear the burdens of life.

The fatwa says that any married woman who was obliged to support her husband with the expenses of the family and living by giving him money from her salary or the money that she was provided by any means, owes a right to her husband’s wealth that she helped him make after his death other than her legal right to inheritance.

This fatwa was one of the outcomes of the Al Azhar Conference for the Renewal of Islamic Thoughts in 2019 under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Al Azhar has clarified its opinion, but we hope to make a law regulating this process to guarantee the rights of the husband and wife.
