Graphic design giant Canva is under fire after users discovered its Magic Layers AI tool was automatically removing the word Palestine from designs and replacing it with Ukraine.
The issue, first flagged by social media user @ros_ie9, showed the tool altering text ‘Cats for Palestine‘ without any user instruction.
Canva has since apologized, describing the incident as an isolated technical glitch that has now been resolved. A spokesperson confirmed that additional internal checks and an audit of their testing processes are underway to prevent future unexpected outputs.
Despite the fix, the incident has reignited a global conversation regarding systemic bias in AI training data, echoing previous controversies involving other tech giants. For creators, it serves as a stark reminder of the editorial influence embedded within generative tools.
