The Giza Governorate has recently made an announcement regarding a significant road closure. The main 26th of July Road will be entirely shut down, starting from the top of the Wadi El-Nil tunnel and extending to the beginning of the Lebanon Bridge. This closure is set to begin today and will last for a duration of six months, affecting both directions and spanning approximately 400 meters.
The primary reason behind this decision is to pave the way for the first phase of the Wadi El-Nil monorail station. This is a segment of the broader 6th of October monorail line project, which stretches from the Wadi El-Nil station all the way to the industrial zone of the 6th of October City.
Governor Ahmed Rashid of Giza has taken proactive measures to ensure minimal disruption. He has directed all relevant authorities to work in close coordination with the company responsible for the project. The aim is to guarantee a smooth traffic flow and to prevent any potential congestion in and around the construction site throughout the implementation phase.
To further assist in this endeavor, the Giza Governorate has provided clarity on the traffic diversions that will be in place. The General Traffic Department of Giza has rerouted traffic from the main 26th of July Road to the adjacent service roads. The specifics of these diversions include:
- For vehicles from Lebanon Square and 6th of October City: Those aiming to head towards the 15th of May and Zamalek Club should take a right turn onto the supporting road of the 26th of July. They can then continue on this route until an exit allows them to rejoin the main 26th of July Road, leading towards the 15th of May Bridge and Sphinx Square.
- For vehicles from the 15th of May Bridge and Tersana Club: Those wishing to proceed towards Lebanon Square and 6th of October City should divert right to the supporting road of the 26th of July. This diversion starts specifically from above the Wadi El-Nil tunnel. Motorists can then continue on this path until they can rejoin the main road, post the construction area, heading towards Lebanon Square and the October regions.
In addition to these measures, the General Traffic Department of Giza has coordinated efforts with the executing company. They have ensured the installation of essential directional and warning signs around the construction vicinity. This is to provide clear guidance and information to the citizens. Moreover, the department has also deployed the necessary traffic services in the construction area’s vicinity. This strategic move is to ensure the required traffic fluidity and maintain a smooth flow of vehicles.
The Giza Governorate’s initiatives highlight their commitment to ensuring that the monorail project’s construction causes minimal inconvenience to the public. With proper planning and coordination, they aim to achieve a balance between developmental projects and the daily lives of the citizens.
