Another year, another report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) that tracks our progress throughout the year prior. Spanning across several categories ranging from Foreign Trade, Childhood and Maternity, to Information and Communication Technology, here are a few highlights from this year’s informative report…
Mobile Internet Users Grew by 12.5%
Increasing from 61.8 million users the previous year, mobile internet users reached 69.5 million in 2022. However, it appears that USB modem users have switched to using hotspots, perhaps? They have declined by 27.6% from 2.9 million to 2.1 million.
Egypt’s Population Increased by 1.6 Million
Proving to be one of the fastest worldwide, Egypt’s population soared by 1.6 million from the previous year, 2021. Reportedly, 10.2 million reside in Cairo, 9.5 million in Giza, and around 14 million live abroad.
A Baby Was Born Every 14 Seconds
The Egyptian population grew by 1,583,000 in 2022, reaching a total of 104,395,000. The figures show that a baby was born every 14 seconds! In an effort to detect genetic diseases in newborns, The Ministry of Health has already tested 214,000 babies since December, 2021.
Egypt-US Trade Exchange Increased by 13.4%
Although Egypt’s exports to the US suffered from a 1.7% decrease to $1.8bn, Egypt’s imports increased by 19.5% to reach $5.5bn from $4.6bn Most of the exports were reported to be garments, vegetables, floor coverings, and glass.
