During the last day of the eid vacation, reports of the rape of a 4-year-old in a kids play area in Assuit started circulating. The accused is one of the workers in the area and is only 14 years old himself.
In a Facebook post, the victim’s cousin wrote the details of the incident.
The post explained that the victim was in X.Play in Assiut governorate. The center is almost the only entertainment venue for kids 3+ years old in the governorate.
The post explained that parents usually leave their children for hours in the venue while they do some work or wait for them in the waiting room.
One of the center workers “S.S., ” who is 14, lured the young girl away from people’s eyes and rapped her.
According to the post, the victim was found crying, surrounded by her own blood after the attack, unaware of what had really happened. Unfortunately, no one noticed or helped her until her mother’s return.
When her mother returned, she found her daughter crying, pointing to private parts of her body and the rapist. The mother figured out it was a rape incident, and a doctor in the center examined the girl and confirmed the rape.
So the mother told the venue’s owner about the rapist and immediately reported the incident to the police.
But the owner of the center decided to help the rapist.
“The owner claimed that he arrested the rapist, but when the police arrived at the scene to start the investigations, the rapist was not there.
The owner helped him flee the center. Additionally, in the initial investigations, he denied knowing him. He denied he was a worker in the center.” said the victim’s cousin in her post.
Only hours after the attack, police watched the security cameras’ recordings and arrested the rapist. The investigation is currently ongoing.
According to Egyptian law, the rapist is now facing extradition that could lead to 3-15 years in prison.
We want to add that the attacker himself is an underage boy. While it’s important to share the story and raise awareness of such crimes, it is still important to remember he is almost a child himself. Sharing personal information about him will not help anyone. What we need to discuss are the family of the rapist and how his short upbringing led to this, and most certainly the venue’s owner who is enabling the actions.
