“This globally acclaimed site for ecotourism and diving, hosting rare coral reefs and endangered sea turtle nesting areas, is now endangered by a commercial project benefiting private entities at the expense of the environment and people’s rights.”

Adding to the severity of the situation, Ayman H. Taher, Chairman of Blue Heaven Holidays, reported that legally authorized Italian investors—who had been granted permits for environmentally sustainable tourism projects—were forcibly removed by unknown investors conducting unauthorized construction.

Ministry of Environment’s Clarification Raises More Questions

In response to growing public concern, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment issued an official statement asserting:

“All permitted activities at Hankorab Beach are carried out strictly under existing laws and regulations, ensuring they align with the objectives of the protected area without harming its natural habitats.”

The Ministry further clarified that ongoing developments, including the construction of visitor facilities such as restrooms, signage, and other infrastructure, are part of an approved management plan intended to balance ecological preservation with enhancing visitor safety and experience.
