The hashtag #silhouettechallenge (Silhouette Challenge) already had an incredible 91 million views on the TikTok app. In a matter of days, the challenge managed to go viral.
Chloe Bailey from Chloe x Halle almost broke the internet, earning more than 1 million views on her #silhouettechallenge video.
The Silhouette Challenge has quickly become January’s hottest TikTok trend, and if you want to give it a go, here’s how.
But what is this Silhouette Challenge anyway?
In a way, it’s similar to the transition trend that took over TikTok last year. But this time, it adds a little twist, using filters and colour to enhance the transition.
The Silhouette Challenge basically involves standing in a doorway before turning yourself against a seductive red backdrop into a black silhouette.
You add the song Put Your Head on My Shoulder by The Platters in the background.
Want to know how to master that Silhouette challenge? Here’s the Silhouette Challenge TikTok Tutorial!
These TikTok challenges are getting very technical and watching a video and understanding how to replicate it yourself is no longer the case.
Some very particular steps are necessary for the Silhouette Challenge to make it work.
Find a doorway first, which you can film in. Bright windows can work too.
While wearing regular clothing, stand before the doorway, then film the first part of the video with full lights.
To film the silhouette part, you need to film the clip on Snapchat for this and add a filter called ‘Vin Rouge’.
You then turn off all the lights, except for the lights from the room behind you. This is how you make the silhouette show. Wearing tight clothes will make your silhouette look clearer.
All you need to do now is save both clips to your camera roll and edit the two together on TikTok.
