New interrogation details have shed light on how Egyptian content creator Mohamed Abdelaty runs his channel “Ma Kamel Ehtiramy” (“With Full Respect”), from revenue sources to production methods.
Abdelaty told prosecutors that his videos were created “for entertainment and profit,” not with the intent to offend.
He explained that his income comes mainly from YouTube, where a marketing company handles ad revenue and transfers 70% of the profits to him. He said he earns between 30,000 and 50,000 EGP per video, depending on views, adding that his monthly income averages around $1,500.
He said the money goes toward his personal expenses, while part of it is saved to upgrade his car. Abdelaty confirmed owning a Mitsubishi Pajero purchased in March 2023 for 500,000 EGP, funded by selling his old Hyundai Tucson. He stated that this is his only personal asset.
The content creator also outlined his production process, saying he writes his scripts himself and sometimes collaborates with his brother and colleagues for filming and editing.
Most videos, he added, are shot using personal cameras or phones rather than a professional crew, and profits from views are sometimes shared with contributors.
Abdelaty said “Ma Kamel Ehtiramy” features comedic and social commentary content aimed at audiences over 18, and that he has produced more than 140 episodes since launching the channel in December 2022. The show currently has over 600,000 subscribers.
He revealed that before starting his YouTube career, he worked in digital marketing and production at his brother’s company from 2019 to 2023, earning a monthly salary of 15,000 EGP.
The Economic Court is set to begin Abdelaty’s trial next week on charges of publishing indecent content and misusing social media platforms.
