A deeply disturbing case has come to light involving a six-year-old student at El Karma School in Damanhour, Beheira. The child, Yassin, has accused an 80-year-old man affiliated with the school’s financial oversight of sexually and physically assaulting him over the course of a year.
The man, according to school statements, was not a formal staff member but a financial supervisor appointed by the Beheira Matraniya, which owns the school.
What Yassin Says Happened
According to Yassin’s testimony, the abuse was systematic and carefully hidden. He explained that he was regularly removed from his classroom by a nanny working at the school. She would escort him to isolated places—the school’s bathroom or a dusty, abandoned car behind the building—where the assaults took place. Afterward, the nanny would wait nearby and then take him back to class as if nothing had happened.
Yassin spoke in heartbreaking detail about what he endured.
“He used to pull my pants down and hit me. He would pull my hair and cut it while making fun of me,” he said.
He described the physical and emotional pain he suffered, recalling,
“I cried a lot from the pain, but no one knew what was happening inside the bathroom.”
The fear he lived under was just as devastating. According to Yassin, after one incident, the school principal, Wafaa Edward, confronted the man and hit him with a stick in front of him. But instead of protecting him, she threatened him into silence.
“They told me if I spoke, they would kill my mom and dad,”
Yassin said. These threats kept him silent for months, even as the abuse continued.
It was only after his mother noticed his physical suffering and changes in behavior that the truth began to surface. Medical examinations later confirmed injuries consistent with repeated sexual assault, prompting immediate legal action.
School Principal Speaks Out During Heated Interview
Wafaa Edward, principal of El Karma, initially refrained from commenting on the case, citing directives from the Ministry of Education.
However, in a tense phone interview with journalist Lamees El Hadidi on her program Kalema Akhira, Edward acknowledged she had been summoned by the Public Prosecution multiple times and stated that she had been acquitted twice during the investigative process.
She further clarified that the accused was not formally employed by the school, but was a financial auditor representing the Beheira Matraniya, the religious body responsible for managing the school’s finances.
Ministry of Education Confirms Investigation
In an official statement, the Ministry of Education confirmed the incident took place in early 2024 and is currently under investigation by the Public Prosecution and judicial authorities. Ministry spokesperson Shady Zalata emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and affirmed that legal action is being pursued.
The Beheira Education Directorate also confirmed that it will take all appropriate legal measures against the school’s legal representative and ownership once a final court ruling is issued.
Court Hearing Scheduled
The case is scheduled to be heard in court on April 30, 2025, a date closely watched by the public, child protection advocates, and the wider education sector. Testimonies have already been submitted to the prosecution, and the legal proceedings are in motion.
Ministry Urges Caution in Public Discourse
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the Ministry has urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified information. It stressed the need to allow the judicial process to unfold without interference from speculation or misinformation.
As investigations continue, the public remains deeply concerned for the young student’s well-being and is demanding full accountability from all individuals and institutions involved.
