Inside the World Premiere of “For Those Left Behind” in Egypt

What happens when music becomes a bridge between two worlds? We got an inside look at the world premiere of Lee Bradshaw’s Requiem “For Those Left Behind” — a breathtaking collaboration between Australia and Egypt, led by conductor Nayer Nagui and supported by the Australian Embassy in Cairo.

From the emotion in rehearsals to the grandeur of the final performance, this requiem brought together voices and instruments to tell a story of loss, memory, and connection.

Celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Egypt, the performance featured the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Orchestra, Youth Orchestra, and Cairo Celebration Choir, held on September 12 & 13 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s Great Hall and All Saints’ Cathedral in Zamalek. It wasn’t just a concert — it was a shared moment of art, history, and humanity.
