MP Calls for Tougher Laws Against Violence in Schools
MP Samira El-Gazzar of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party filed an urgent request to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif, condemning the attack and questioning the growing tolerance of violence against women in Egypt.
She called for national awareness campaigns and stricter laws against physical abuse targeting women and girls, arguing that such behavior reflects deep-rooted societal issues.
She also urged Al-Azhar to counter extremist misinterpretations of religious texts used to justify violence.
El-Gazzar highlighted alarming statistics: 31% of Egyptian women experience domestic violence, with 26% suffering physical abuse. Many cases remain unreported, indicating a far worse reality.

The assault reignited discussions on the normalization of violence against women. El-Gazzar stressed that beating women is not a sign of masculinity but rather psychological instability or immaturity.
She emphasized that violence is not limited by social class or education level, stating, “A well-raised man with respect and decency would never engage in such disgraceful behavior.”
